Project Update: the (tariff) elephant in the room
so, let's talk tariffs!
tariffs have been discussed to death lately, and im sure this isnt the first any of you will be hearing about them. I dont want to go over familiar ground too much, so in this update ill try to keep information batpack specific.
here's the rundown:
tariffs have been discussed to death lately, and im sure this isnt the first any of you will be hearing about them. I dont want to go over familiar ground too much, so in this update ill try to keep information batpack specific.
here's the rundown:
- all add-on items for the campaign (pins, stickers, etc) have already arrived in the states and are not affected by the current surge in tariffs.
- the batpacks themselves are ALL still in production in china. so, once we begin shipment from china to here in the US, we WILL need to find out how much tariffs will impact our costs.
- because, to be quite frank: the current proposed tariff rates are not something we can afford. even if the proposed rate has dropped since i began writing this (from over 200% to around 145% last i heard), with the profit margin on this project already being incredibly thin... it would have a massive, massive impact.
the current priority is figuring out a working solution to mitigate the tariff damage while still moving things along production wise. currently, the plan is:
- once the first batch of batpacks are ready to ship, our initial shipment will be just a portion of those at first, so that we can gauge what the tariff cost will be & begin sending at least a few orders out.
- if the tariff cost doesnt end up being that bad, proceed with shipment of the rest of the ready designs.
- if the tariff bill is huge, we can begin looking into a different fulfilment method (having bags specifically shipped directly to you guys by our chinese manufacturer, redirecting fulfillment to my new home in canada and simply eating the cost of changes in shipping, just to name a few ideas)
- if the tariff bill is huge & alternatives prove to be too expensive and/or a logistical nightmare, we do have the option of continuing to wait things out and see if tariffs stabilize over the summer. just know that i very much would prefer NOT to have to do this & that this is truly a last resort.
i hope this update helps shed some light on some of the upcoming challenges the campaign will begin facing once we enter into the fulfillment phase proper. of course, as always, youre more than welcome to reach out to me with questions at any time, and ill continue to try and keep everyone updated with any updates or new information on my end!
hope you're all having an easy start to may & thank you as always for your trust and continued support 🖤🦇
