Project Update: some flying fox details + painted/vampire bat updates!

hey all! in my last update, i had someone ask to see some more close-up/detail shots of the flying fox design! i also have some updates about painted bat and flying fox, so ill be sharing those updates here too.

when it comes to flying fox's design, my manufacturer and i went through a lot of options for how to best approach the colors. we had to hunt down the right leather color for the bag itself, which had to differentiate itself from brown bat by being both a darker and more saturated brown color. options were pretty limited!

some of our trial prints on flying fox's face.

with pantone colors, it can be hard to exactly color match since the color you get is always going to be slightly different due to the material being printed on. I wanted us to get as close to 3C as possible while still being darker than the overall leather!

after that, we had to try out different pantone colors on the face. because we are using silk screen printing for the details rather than digital printing (for better print quality & longevity of the print), our is restricted specifically to what pantone colors are available.

i chose to go darker overall in the face rather than lighter, since a brighter cheek color would have made the face overall too bright when combined with the light insides of the ears. there were some suggestions to make the color of the cheeks more red-toned, but brown bat already has more red toned cheeks (and theres no other red in flying fox's design), so when i tried it on a mockup looked pretty out of place.

however, even with the face being as dark as it is, the important thing was to ensure the flying fox's featured could still be seen & differentiated from each other overall; I do wish it was a bit easier to tell in dim indoor lighting, but with timing & financial constraints being what they were, I couldn't justify having to find a completely different leather color (which would have been the next troubleshooting method, since we'd already messed with the pantone colors as much as we could with the current color palette).

if the colors we finally settled on aren't what you were expecting, remember that youre always free to shoot me or backerkit an email asking to change to a different design! 🖤

now, for painted bat: heres the color we decided on for the outside of the wings!

its pretty close to the color of the inside of the ears, which is what I was aiming for!

and, finally, here's vampire bat with his updated face print. which looks a MILLION times better, imo!

(he has feet now, too!)

hope you all enjoyed these updates! the first batpack order should be hitting US shores around mid to late july, so keep an eye out for that! addresses WILL be locking soon, so if you have any address changes you need to make, please do so ASAP!

thanks again, as always, for all your trust & support 🖤🦇
