Project Update: Showing how the various bits come together
I've started working on a little mini-map to showcase how the assets from various sets in this collection can come together to make something that looks pretty damn good. Here's what I've got so far.
If time permits, I'll try to post an update or two as the map progresses and grows. It's rather slow going, without having all these assets in MapForge's Add-On format. Browsing and finding particular PNG assets in tons of nested folders can be a slow process (I daresay a chore). There's also a lot of pixel-by-pixel nudging of elements into their proper place involved, since external PNGs don't have offsets pre-defined so that they snap-to-grid precisely where they need to be.
My concern is that as this campaign is drawing to a close and is still struggling to achieve the minimum funding goal, I'll need to focus more (most?) of my time to promoting the campaign, which won't leave me much time for working on this map.
But one thing even this fledgling map should showcase effectively is how wall segments can be stacked vertically to create multi-story buildings. Some assets, like those comprising the yellowish building, are even specifically designed to be stacked this way.
This sample map also shows that since doors and windows are transparent openings, you'll need to do a little interior mapping to show what's inside some buildings.
By the way, the poll results are in, and an ample majority has decided that this collection of Add-Ons will henceforth be called the "Dystopian Utopia Collection". Thanks to everyone who voted.
