Project Update: Clings Update, Free Hex Map Web Tool, & Another Sandbox Setting

A bunch of small updates to this project...  I love how everything is coming together!

I'm still waiting for most of the sample clings:
  • One manufacturer who I thought was going to work out really had some poor communication.  So I doubt they will work out after all.
  • Samples from a different manufacturer arrived last Friday... they work fine, but this manufacturer won't cut each individually, and only does them on white.  So unless you cut really close/carefully, you end up with a white border.  And that's not what we're going for.
  • I did successfully submit the files for a sample from another manufacturer late last week and I expect them back Wednesday or Thursday.  They will be printed on clear material, but don't have an option to cut them individually. Once I see these clear clings I can at least set the stretch goal for clings.
  • While most votes in our "do the vinyl clings need to be individually cut" poll say that it isn't a major issue, there are enough who consider it somewhat a factor and a few who consider it critical.  So I'm "redoubling my efforts" and contacting some more manufacturers.  I still hope to find a manufacturer who can do them individually.

In other news, to keep interest going in the project (things slowed down over the weekend) and to learn a new-to-me Javascript framework I put together this "HexLands" web hex map generator. I'm not sure where it is going, but it is fun to play around with!

And Andrew Shields, the writer of our card decks, has made another sample setting using the cards & tiles.  Here is a link to the free PDF!

Thanks again!
