Board Gamers, We Heard You! New d6s Added + Surprise Stream TOMORROW!
They're Here: Triceratops and Chain Mail d6s!
Leading up to this campaign, many of you asked if we'd have something special for board gamers. We're excited to announce that...
Thank you to everyone who has shown up so far! We're so excited for this campaign -- and what an amazing first day we've had already! We blew by the $100k funding mark and we're only just getting started.
We wanted to take this time to talk a bit more about the project and answer your burning question...
Why dice?
It's a great question, and the answer comes from a place we’ve been thinking about a lot lately. First, we think the world could use more science and history in everyday life, and more moments of shared wonder. We've explored this through jewelry, books, and other collaborative projects. This project is one small way of adding to that conversation.
All the dice in Roll with History, Dinosaurs, Campo del Cielo, and Chain Mail
But there's always more than that with Mini Museum. There's a big picture too and that picture revolves around the underlying promise of Mini Museum, which is to say that history, time, and reality are best understood through direct, physicalcontact. We try to encourage this by making meaningful collections designed to provide a sense of one's place in the universe, connecting the present directly with moments and materials far outside everyday experience.
Prepping T. rex specimens for D20 inclusions
In contrast, dice are meant to be handled as the centerpiece of interactive gameplay that involves storytelling and a shared connection with others. In that sense, they're dynamic in a way that is very different from our typical collections. We found this combination really intriguing and it inspired us to see what might be possible by merging wonderandfun.
Someone's having fun!
The result is an object that captures a piece of the past inside an object designed to be used in the present. In this way, the artifact becomes something more than an item to study and transforms into a new kind of experience you engage with in a different context… hopefully an experience you share with others because that's really what Mini Museum is all about.
So... What's Next?
We still have a few tricks up our sleeves! We'll be announcing a few stretch goals and even more ways to grow your collection, so stay tuned and check back in often! What are you hoping for? What are you most excited about with this collection? Drop a comment and let us know!
Now... What About You?
As we've already talked about, this campaign is a unique one for Mini Museum. We want to bring history to a new audience in new ways, so we'd love to hear a bit more from YOU! Fill out the poll to help us get to know you better!
How long have you been following Mini Museum? Have you been with us since our first campaign over a decade ago?
Or is this your first collection? If so, welcome! Glad to have you here! What questions do you have for us? Whether its questions about our process, how we ensure your specimens are authentic, or what our favorite dino is, we're happy to answer - just ask!
The campaign for the Roll With History Specimen Dice project has come to a close, and let us say from everyone here at Mini Museum and FanRoll: THANK YOU! This has been an extremely successful campaign and we're so grateful to have so many backers from the world of history and the world of tabletop gaming joining us on this new journey!
The Next Steps
It's now time to collect pledges! In the next 48 hours, your pledge will be collected and charged by BackerKit. These funds will enter a 14-day holding period before being released to us. Once they are released, we'll be able to start our manufacturing process!
The Mini Museum workshop team has been hard at work during this campaign to get the specimen inclusions prepared, and we are already ahead of schedule. Several dinosaur specimens have already been counted and completed, and we're nearing the end of Chain Mail prep as well. Once these specimens are all bagged and ready, they will be shipped to the factory for production!
We plan to send our surveys for this campaign soon as well. Once we get closer to fulfillment this summer, we'll collect the shipping costs. At that point, your pledges will be ready to send out!
Along the way, we plan to share updates on specimen production, photos of any exciting new prototypes we get, and, of course, plenty of exciting information on what's going on behind the scenes. It is shaping up to be an exciting few months!
Once again, thank you all so much!
It is fantastic to return to crowdfunding once more and continue sharing amazing specimens and dice with the world. Everything we are able to do is because of backers like you. From the bottom of all our hearts, thank you. ❤️
That's all for now! We'll be back soon with information on the surveys!
Big news to start—we're extending the campaign one more week!
Someone's excited about that news!
We've heard from some fans who still want to be part of the campaign but need a little more time before they can back. Plus, we've had such a great time with this community and we want to keep the fun going. We thought the best way to do that while keeping the campaign open to everyone was to get one more week on the calendar before we end!
This move has not affected our timeline in any way. In fact, we've already begun and are quite far into specimen production!
Hadrosaur D12 material is already ahead of schedule!
That's all for now! We've got one more great weekend ahead of us, and we're excited to talk again next week about the next steps towards fulfillment. See you again soon!
It's the final week of the Roll With History dice campaign! There's less than 3 days left and we've still got some big news to share… the results of the Chain Mail D20 poll! It was quite a vote—over 450 backers shared their thoughts on what color this die should be! We're quite pleased to see everyone is excited as we are to participate in this project!
Now, without further ado, we're pleased to announce that the new ink color of the Heavy Metal Chain Mail D20 will be…
Purple!
We think this is a fantastic choice. The color should make the die faces more readable and give a strong contrast to the other dice in the campaign. Plus, the royal color is quite on theme with the specimen source! We think this is an awesome upgrade, and even better, it was chosen by you. Thanks to everyone who voted in this poll!
With that, we're headed into one last awesome week of crowdfunding before the end of the campaign! At the end of this week, your pledges will be collected and charged by BackerKit. The funds then go into a 14-day holding period before they are released. At that point, we'll move into the next stages of production!
We'll share more about those next steps after the campaign is completed. For now, we'll leave you with another poll to ponder… which dinosaur is your favorite in this campaign?
