Ok, let's get into it!

This campaign is packed with exciting, limited-run items for our Backers. We've got three exciting lines of dice, plus tons of fun accessories for every science-and-history-loving gamer. Not to mention pledge tiers with individual serial numbers for super exclusive collectors... like you!

Perfect for any fantasy-setting tabletop game, the Medieval Heavy Metal Chain Mail D20 has rings from the fragments of several ruined garments, all dating to the 15th century. This period is considered the sunset of chain mail in Europe, as advanced plate armor completely supplanted mail. As you might expect, each garment has a unique braid and all the rings were forged and assembled by hand - so the ring inside every die will have variations in size, color, and texture.

  • ACTUAL 15th CENTURY CHAIN MAIL
  • OVERSIZED d20 at 23mm
  • ROLLS PERFECTLY! ⚔️

Hold time and space in the palm of your hands with the Campo del Cielo Meteorite D20. This meteorite is thought to have formed 4.5 billion years ago, during the creation of our solar system. Thousands of years ago, the meteorite broke up over the skies of northern Argentina and rocketed to the ground. The impact was witnessed by local indigenous groups and the story was recorded in their oral histories as a cosmic event, a tale that described the power of the stars.

  • ACTUAL METEORITE FROM SPACE
  • OVERSIZED d20 at 23mm!
  • Did we mention it was over 4,500,000,000 years old?! ☄️

The Dinosaur Fossil Polyhedral Dice Set features seven authentic fragments of a variety of dinosaur fossils from across the Mesozoic, ranging from 150 to 66 million years old.

  • DINOSAURS! LOTS OF THEM! A COMPLETE MESOZOIC MENAGERIE! 🦖🦕
  • OVERSIZED set at 18mm! (T. rex d20 is 23mm!)
  • Ethically sourced material from the Mini Museum Collection. ❤️

🎲🎲 NEW! d6 SETS!

Leading up to this campaign, we had some questions about if there'd be anything special for the board gamers out there. We're excited to announce that, thanks to the support of our backers so far, we're able to introduce two new d6 pairs: one featuring 15th-century chain mail links and another with a ~66 million-year-old triceratops fossil inclusion! Whether you're playing Yahtzee or Monopoly, you can bring history right to your table by swapping out the base dice with these. Show off a piece of medieval craftsmanship or prehistoric wonder every time you play.

Fill your museum with gaming accessories, meant to perfectly pair with your collection!

Roll With History Dice Trays

Protect your table and your specimens with these high-quality dice trays. Each tray is inspired by a different line in the collection, and thanks to the snapping corners, can fold flat to fit into your folder or backpack. Each tray measures 10" x 10" when unfolded.

Dinosaur Timeline Game Mat & Roll With History Dice Bag

Worried you won't remember which fossil is in which die? Well that won't be a problem with the Dinosaur Timeline Game Mat! Each dinosaur is labeled with its name, the die its fossil is inside, and information on the fossil's approximate age and formation. Want to take your collection with you on-the-go? The Mini Dice Bag will keep your specimens protected and secure!

Plus we've got a whole bunch of fun pins for you to show off your nerdiness with!

QUALITY, EXPERIENCE, AND AUTHENTICITY

Two great teams. One incredible collection.

Mini Museum is one of the bedrock crowdfunding teams (literally) with over a decade of experience in sharing authentic historical artifacts with the world. FanRoll Dice is a leader in crafting high-quality dice and gaming accessories, and is always pushing the limits of what dice can be.

Together, we're bringing authentic pieces of Earth's history to your gaming table. Here's how it's done!

Handling and encasing pieces of history in hand-polished resin dice is no small challenge, but with millions of dice sets crafted over the years, it's a challenge FanRoll is ready to take on. You can expect the same incredible quality you've come to know from FanRoll.

We've selected a sharp-edge finish to ensure you can clearly see your piece of history. Whether you choose to display your dice or roll them in your next campaign, they will be safely and beautifully preserved.

Oh, yes, and they're absolutely balanced. We rolled over 1000 times. Learn more about our testing in this Project Update!

For Mini Museum, authenticity isn't a claim - it's the foundation of everything we do. We guarantee that every specimen in this collection is real, authentic, and unique.

That means every specimen inside your dice is genuine, not a replica or a cast, with a statement of authenticity to certify this. We work closely with field paleontologists, meteorite collectors, other museums, and auction houses to source these specimens, following mining and heritage laws around the world. Our philosophy is to treat these materials with respect and to share them with conservation in mind.
Edit

Shipping, Taxes, Customs, and Duties will be collected separately after the campaign ends.

We use flat shipping rates for transportation to destinations around the world. Taxes and duties are not included in these rates, and this is where it gets complex.

Many countries apply VAT, GST, or duty on imported goods, and these charges can change with little notice. We will make every effort to reduce these costs before we collect shipping and taxes prior to shipping. We are also exploring an additional postage option that may reduce costs while keeping shipments secure. We have been shipping internationally for more than a decade and this is a complex environment, but we will keep working to hold total costs down.

For most locations, we will collect and remit duties on your behalf so rewards arrive “duties paid” (DDP). In regions where DDP is not available, you will need to pay duties directly to the carrier or your local customs office according to the rules in your country. Naturally, we'll let you know what to expect before we ship.

Below you will find a chart of estimated flat shipping fees by country and estimated duties/taxes based on current pricing. All prices are in US Dollars (USD).

Shipping Fees by Country and/or Region:

  • USA: $10 flat shipping, no duties or taxes expected
  • Canada: $20 flat shipping, estimated 35% duties and taxes
  • UK: $25 flat shipping, estimated 30% duties and taxes
  • EU: $25 flat shipping, estimated 30% duties and taxes
  • Australia: $30 flat shipping, estimated 10% duties and taxes
  • Japan: $25 flat shipping, estimated 20% duties and taxes
  • Rest of the world: $30 flat shipping, duties and taxes to be determined based on location

ℹ️ We know a single all inclusive price at backing would be ideal, but the landscape changes too quickly for that to be reliable. Tariffs in place today can disappear tomorrow, and new rules can appear just as fast. We are doing our best to navigate this and keep your total costs as low and predictable as possible while being open and transparent.

For this campaign, we are unable to ship to the following countries: Brazil, India, Iran, Russia, & South Africa. If you are in one of these countries and would still like to support the campaign, we recommend using a reshipping or freight-forwarding service.

Production Timeline:

These estimates are subject to change & we'll be sure to send progress updates regularly!

  •  February: Campaign Ends
  •  March: Surveys Sent to Backers
  •  March: Production Begins – Estimated 8 Weeks Production Time
  •  June: Shipping Charged
  •  July: Shipping Begins
  •  August: Campaign Complete

The hallmark of any Mini Museum project is dedication to craft. We've been at this for over a decade now, delighting hundreds of thousands of backers and fans around the world. It's a process we handle with great pride and care. We're fanatics for authenticity and care. You can rest assured that everything in this collection is a genuine article, and that it has undergone a meticulous quality assurance process.

📸 Museum Technicians, Carlin, hard at work opening up links of chain mail to prep specimens for inclusion.

📸 Mini Museum Technician, Erik, reviewing T. rex specimens.

Each specimen undergoes a quality assurance process, which includes looking at each specimen's size and weight, while comparing it visually to other specimens. As you can see, each specimen is absolutely unique, a time capsule of history. (It's pretty awesome to see them all lined up like this to be honest.)

Want to learn more about the specimens in this collection and our process? You're in the right place. This campaign is meant to excite you about the amazing world we live in, and the scientific and historical events that have brought us here. We're so excited to be able to share our passion for making time tangible with you.

Campo del Cielo

With a recovered mass of 150 metric tons and boasting the largest documented strewnfield, Campo Del Cielo is an utterly unique meteorite. The meteorite is an IAB-MG, meaning it is a part of the main group of non-magmatic iron meteorites. Although this group is far from rare, Campo Del Cielo is unique in that it has high levels of iridium, an element that does not occur naturally on the Earth’s surface and thus allows for easy identification.

Campo del Cielo is often referred to as a single meteorite, but in reality, it is a broad term defining a meteorite field in the Santiago del Estero and Chaco provinces of northern Argentina. It is thought that the meteorite broke apart within the Earth’s atmosphere, with chunks spread across 20 mi² (55.5 km²). There are numerous large craters here, the largest being 377 by 299 ft (115 by 91 m), with radiocarbon dating of charred tree stumps placing the date of the impact at roughly 2500 BCE.

The descent and impact of the meteor was witnessed by local indigenous groups of the time and became an important part of their oral history. Stories from numerous tribes describe a cosmic event causing a worldwide fire that took many lives. This correlates with charred wood found around the site, which suggests the meteorite may have ignited a forest fire upon impact.

The area was given the name Piguem Nonralta, first appearing in written history in 1576 CE, when Spanish colonists sought out the area. The governor of the provinces of Tucumán, Gonzalo de Abreu y Figueroa, believed the local legends spoke of a source of valuable metals which the indigenous peoples had used for weaponry. Translated into Spanish, the area became known as Campo del Cielo, meaning "Field of Heaven."

The 1576 expedition found the area and assumed it was an iron mine, the site going ignored until the late 1770s when a new expedition proposed that the iron field was the product of a volcanic eruption. It would not be until 1933 that the scientific community finally recognized the site as being formed by meteorite impacts, a fact the locals had known for millennia.

Medieval Chain Mail

Bookended by the collapse of the western Roman Empire in 476 CE and the beginnings of the Renaissance a millennia later, Europe’s Medieval Period bore witness to centuries of military conflict, augmented by advancements in weapons and armor technology. Chain mail was the perfect armor to protect against this arsenal of battle axes and spiked flails. It was flexible and light enough to keep a warrior unencumbered (though not exactly comfortable), but tough enough to fend off blows from enemies.

Valued for flexibility in combat, chain mail was the primary defensive armor in Europe for more than one thousand years, through the entirety of the Medieval Period. To create a 'chain mail' or 'maille' garment, thousands of rings would be punched out whole or riveted from strands of wire. A blacksmith would weave the rings into sheets using a pattern of interlocking rings. Patterns varied by region, dictated by armaments and fighting styles. Given the labor-intensive process of weaving, chain mail garments were costly to purchase but relatively simple to repair.

After being built, chain mail would go through a process called proofing to assure it could stand up to blows during battle. “Armour of proof” or specifically “mail of proof” was chain mail that had been found to survive shots from arrows or jabs from swords. Of course, the very existence of this designation suggests that plenty of chain mail was not strong enough to handle tough blows, especially as weapons became more advanced, like the rise of the longbow in the 14th century. For all its benefits, chain mail was no guarantee of protection against attack.

Spotlight on the Tyrannosaurus Rex

The Dinosaur Polyhedral Dice Set has SEVEN different specimens - far too many for us to cover here. Instead, we'll be posting more information on each fossil in our regular Updates, so be sure to keep checking back for more! For now, we'll talk about the King of the Dice Dinosaurs, the Tyrannosaurs Rex.

Various mechanical studies of T. rex power place the "Tyrant Lizard King" firmly at the top of the charts. Paired with this incredible power, T. rex also had some of the largest teeth of any carnivorous dinosaur, with the largest measuring 1 ft (30 cm).

We now know many theropods possessed feathers, including smaller tyrannosauroids such as Dilong and Yutyrannus. Recent evidence suggests that larger tyrannosaurids did not sport full-body feathers as adults, but they certainly did during their early years.

Most research suggests that T. rex and its fellow large tyrannosaurids (Gorgosaurus, Albertosaurus, and Tarbosaurus) both hunted and scavenged to meet the requirements for powering such huge bodies. Among the other dinosaurs bearing tyrannosaurid bite marks are ceratopsids, hadrosaurs, and other tyrannosaurs (reflecting the sort of opportunistic cannibalism also widespread among predators). Sauropods such as Alamosaurus, which overlapped with T. rex in North America, and Opisthocoelicaudia, which shared Asian landscapes with Tarbosaurus, may also have been tyrannosaurid quarry.

Studies suggest the great tyrannosaurids achieved their huge size through accelerated growth spurts. At the peak of its growth spurt, a young T. rex may have put on the better part of a ton annually. Bite marks from conspecifics have been found on the skulls of large tyrannosaurids, suggesting they may have bitten each other in dominance or reproductive interactions. It’s possible some species were gregarious, perhaps even pack-hunters; the first known tyrannosaurid trackway, from a Late Cretaceous formation in British Columbia, hints at three animals traveling together.

Despite popular depictions of poor depth perception, studies show that when compared to other giant theropods, tyrannosaurids had a wide postorbital skull which resulted in forward-facing eyes and acute binocular vision. The spine of a Tyrannosaurus rex was subject to tremendous force. The size and strength of the vertebrae were essential to providing support for this enormous predator, but the entire apparatus also had to allow for rapid changes in movement and critical striking speed.

 Mini Museum

We launched our first major collection in 2014 with a simple dream to share a love of science and history. Since then, our public collection has grown to encompass hundreds of topics across billions of years of history, and we've sent over 1,000,000 specimens to homes, schools, and museums around the world. With more than 80,000 customers in 120 different countries, it's safe to say that we've reached our goal but in reality there is still so very much to share!

 FanRoll

In 2012, Metallic Dice Games was created to bring the highest-quality metal dice to the gaming world. In 2022, the company was purchased and rebranded as FanRoll Dice, with the goal of maintaining top-tier quality while combining it with innovation and big brands. FanRoll Dice is now one of the largest gaming dice retailers in the world.

Edit

Since 2014, Mini Museum and FanRoll have delivered tens of thousands of museums and dice sets to more than 120 countries worldwide, so together we have a great handle on the risks associated with the project. Together, we've successfully delivered to nearly 30,000 backers in the last decade.

Still, creating authentic inclusion dice with fossils, chain mail, and meteorites is a highly complex process. Each specimen has its unique challenges, and it's important to note that production involves the assistance of many outside vendors and partners. We have great relationships with our partners, but the ever-changing crowdfunding world always has new challenges.

We've taken every step possible to mitigate potential issues while always focusing on the end product's quality. As with past projects, we plan to provide detailed and timely project updates to keep backers advised, informed, educated, and entertained. Sharing behind-the-scenes looks at production is one of our favorite parts of crowdfunding, and we strive to be as open and approachable as possible!
