Project Update: Recipes for Old Gods of Appalachia Game Nights!

Hey there family!

We hope you’re keepin’ warm this winter. We have some news and recipes to share while we wait for Spring to grace us with her presence.

Come Hell or High Water

Come Hell or High Water is now in layout! Once this is complete, the last book in the trilogy of supplements will go to the final stages of proofing and review, and then can be sent to the printers. We are on schedule for our anticipated delivery.

Here’s one of the early pieces of art from the book that’ll give you a peek into what kind of adventures you’ll find inside!

Dice, Props, and Recipe Set

There is a lot of uncertainty around manufacturing due to the changing global tariff situation at present. We want to reassure everyone that we will deliver what was promised, and you will get your rewards. We’re looking at alternative options for everything and will keep you updated, even if it’s to say we’ve not quite found a solution that works just yet. But we’re tenacious and we keep our promises family, so we will find a way. This affects the following items:

  • Prop set
  • Dice Set and Tin
  • Stamp Set
  • Jack’s Fate Pendant
  • Witch Jar
  • Recipe Set

Recipes for an Old Gods of Appalachia Game Night!

The recipe set provides more than two dozen favorite Appalachian recipes, many handed down through the generations, and each with their own description of why they’re so beloved.

Recipes include:

  • Linda’s apple-sausage stuffing, a favorite offered up by Cam Collins, courtesy of her mother-in law’s excellent cooking
  • Pone (biscuit) bread, one of Tammie Webb Ryan’s favorite recipes from her mom.
  • Perry’s biscuits, a recipe given to us by poet (and Dig Your Own Grave contributor) Jeff Mann that was his father’s special Sunday morning meal
  • Granny’s Coca Cola Cocktail, a specialty from the granny of Aliya Johnson, voices of Mercy Boggs-Carter and others on the Old Gods of Appalachia podcast
  • Chocolate Chess Pie, dished up by author (and Dig Your Own Grave contributor) Lee Mandela

Steve Shell’s Old-fashioned Corn Bread Recipe from His Mamaw

“Cornbread recipes are family treasures and everyone's family does it differently. My mamaw's was the best and if you disagree you are wrong. This is white cornbread flipped out of a cast iron skillet. If you don't understand how that makes this superior, I can't help you.” —Steve Shell, OGoA co-creator and narrator

Ingredients:
  • 1 ½ cups of self rising corn meal
  • 1 cup of self rising flour
  • 1 tsp of sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1-2 cups of buttermilk

Directions:
  1. Mix ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  2. In an iron skillet, heat bacon grease, oil, or butter to cover the bottom.
  3. Preheat your oven to 400℉.
  4. Pour in mixture and bake for about 40 minutes.
  5. Turn the skillet upside down onto the plate.
