Project Update: Many People and Many Dice!

Hello, archivists—

It’s been a busy month, with a number of shows and events where The Magnus Archives Roleplaying Game has been hugely popular!

Don’t get eaten by your podcast!

UK Games Expo saw many demos and much Magnus Archives keenness! The lovely Rusty Quill team joined us as part of their ten-year anniversary celebrations, along with the delightful Sydney from Indie Boards & Cards promoting The Magnus Protocol Mysteries. We ran and recorded two seminars at the show, the first about bringing podcasts to tabletop games and the second a live play with some of the cast of The Magnus Archives and The Magnus Protocol

Rusty Quill are currently editing footage for their channels, which we’ll be able to share with you once that’s done. If you’ve not yet managed to play or run The Magnus Archives Roleplaying Game, then this would be a fun intro!

Look at this swarm of dice!

We hope you enjoy this sneak preview of so very many dice coming off of the production line. It feels a little like The Contagion has got involved in making these teeny math rocks! We’ll have more info about dice production next time.

Thanks for your support

Project Update: Ten Years of The Magnus Archives!

Hello, archivists—

How time flies! Has it already been 10 years since we released The Magnus Archives RPG?!? Well, no. But, it is the 10th anniversary of The Magnus Archives podcast from Rusty Quill, and we have some great TTRPG content lined up this year to celebrate such an achievement.

Upcoming Anniversary Events at UK Games Expo!

Join us at UKGE in Birmingham, UK, on Friday, May 29th for a live seminar hosted by none other than Rusty Quill with Monte Cook Games and Indie Boards and Cards—we’ll be talking about converting podcasts into games.

Take a deep dive into the process involved in turning a podcast into exciting tabletop games, hosted by Rusty Quill, the multi-award-winning podcast production company behind the world’s most popular audio fiction horror story, The Magnus Archives.

Joined by Monte Cook Games (Cypher System, Numenera) and Indie Boards and Cards (Coup, The Resistance, Kodama), topics they will cover include how to use audio to create new experiences in tabletop games, the process of turning audio experiences into TTRPGs, and tips on running successful crowdfunding campaigns for your games.

Each of these companies are giants of their industry, able to bring their own unique, tried and tested perspectives that have led to award-winning games and podcasts. You won’t want to miss it!

Add it to your UKGE schedule here!

Monte Cook Games Booth at UKGE 2025 with demos in full flow

Then, make sure to tune in on Sunday, May 31st, for a LIVEPLAY of The Magnus Archives Roleplaying Game!

Take on the mysteries of the Archives in this live play session of The Magnus Archives Roleplaying Game, the record breaking TTRPG based on the world’s most popular horror podcast!

Join players from gaming and podcast titans Monte Cook Games, Indie Boards and Cards, and Rusty Quill as they examine what lurks in the Archives of the Magnus Institute, an organisation dedicated to researching the esoteric and the weird.

Powered by the Cypher System, The Magnus Archives Roleplaying Game will challenge and terrify players and audience alike, with an expert Monte Cook Games GM guiding our investigators through the Archives, as they dig into the supernatural and attempt to hold back the machinations of entities that threaten humanity.

Because when you stare into the Archives, something starts to stare back…

Add it to your UGKE schedule here!

But that’s not all! Drop by the MCG Booth (2-271 Hall 2) over the course of the weekend for a free demo of The Magnus Archives RPG!

A quick update on dice

If you missed our last update, we shared that The Magnus Archives RPG dice are in production! Our manufacturing partner is hard at work putting together the second round of proofs, which we’ll share photos of when we receive them. After that, we’ll get the dice printed, shipped, and fulfilled as quickly as possible! (Take a look at some of the photos we shared last time—these dice are going to be truly gorgeous!)

Project Update: An Update on Dice (Yay!)

Hello, archivists—

Happy April! We’re posting this safely far away from April 1st so you won’t mistake it for a joke—we really DO have an update on The Magnus Archives Deluxe Dice!

In our last update, we mentioned that due to tariffs and disrupted global trade we needed to explore more manufacturing options for the dice and box. They’re very deluxe products, which makes producing them even trickier when global issues throw wrenches into every step of the process. Not to worry, however—we at MCG are old hats at navigating tough issues to deliver products that delight both you and us.

Now, for the fun part…

Even deluxier dice are coming!

The deluxe dice are now in production!

And to express our gratitude for the patience and grace you’ve shown us during this challenging process, we’ve found a way to further upgrade the dice. As you know, we promised high-quality sharp-edged resin dice with special markings for the game’s mechanics. We’ve worked with our vendor to further refine the design. Have a look at this:

Look how these dice shine!

The green dice show the color, pattern, and paint color we’re using for the final design. (The faces are “generic,” though, and don’t reflect the final design. So ignore them.) This is a slight upgrade from what we’ve shown in the past, but very similar.

The blue dice show the physical facet-cut design, which is really unique! This is hard to photograph—we’re doing our best to convey the brilliance, but what you see is a pale facsimile of what it’s like to hold these dice in your hand. They really shimmer!

If you look at the corners, these dice really show off the gorgeous facet-cut design!

The beautiful Leitner booksafe box, which doubles as a dice tray, is also moving forward. We’ll have more news on it in our next update.

Jewel in the Sky: A Megadungeon with a Twist from Monte Cook is live now!

An eight-mile-long island floating 1000 feet above distant mountains, filled with dark passages, huge vaulted rooms, mysterious devices, and dark magic. Things that crawl, slither, and moan. Monsters, creatures, and dark forces. And strange and unimaginable treasures, waiting for those brave, or foolish, enough to claim them.

The base on the floating island known as Vocurro was established to investigate the strange qualities of minerals unique to its planet—but because the inhabitants have only a medieval level of social development, the base has always operated in secret.

Now it’s gone offline. Communications are down. The fate of base personnel is unknown, and a rescue party is on the way. But what will they discover on a planet that doesn’t play by the known rules of physics?

Jewel in the Sky is the first megadungeon built from the ground up for Cypher. It’s not an adaptation, or a conversion—it’s the easiest megadungeon you will ever run, and the most interesting megadungeon your players will ever experience.

Play Jewel in the Sky as a classic fantasy dungeon filled with strange and unusual discoveries. Or drop it into a space opera sci-fi game, and play as the visitors reclaiming their base on a world unlike any ever encountered. It’s specifically designed to play either way—and to deliver twists and surprises that will make this dungeon crawl a weird, exciting, and memorable adventure! Once you explore the island of Vocurro, there won’t be any going back…

Project Update: Deluxe Dice and their Leitner-style Deluxe Dice Box

Hello Archivists,

The Deluxe Dice for The Magnus Archives Roleplaying Game and their Leitner-style Deluxe Dice Box are the only things outstanding for this campaign. We want you to know these have not been forgotten. Due to the current tariff situation, we’re currently trying to find an alternative manufacturer to our originally planned partner. This product is deluxe in many ways, which complicates manufacturing and limits the available facilities and partners who can meet our needs in all ways including production quality.  We’re anxious to get this out as soon as we can, but due to the global trade environment, it’s still a ways off.

Thank you all for your patience and support.
