Indominant uses a d20 roll high resolution mechanic. The entire rule system was designed to provide a cohesive experience, with player creativity, customization, and balance as the main tenets of its design. Indominant has tactical, crunchy combat paired with free-form social and exploration rules that focus on rulings over rules. What sets this system apart is unique and deep character creation and customization, which is supported by multiple systems that give you the true feel of being a Super powered hero!
Dominance and Weakness
This is our version of “Advantage and Disadvantage” from D&D 5e or other similar mechanics. This system is integral to the teamwork aspects of combat. Some Powers, Status Effects, or other Effects grant the Super or Threat a stack of Dominance or Weakness on their roll for an Attack or Check. Each unique source of Dominance or Weakness stacks, up to a maximum of 6 times in either direction. If the total of the d20 plus your Dominance die is equal to or greater than 20, treat it as if it were a Natural 20. If the total of the d20 minus your Weakness die is equal to or less than 1, treat it as if it were a Natural 1.
Feel like a Super with Indominant’s unique Action Economy System! With 4 Action Points (AP) per turn and different Action Types with varying AP costs, you can do a different combination of Actions every turn to tactically take-down the bad guys!
Action Types:Main Actions cost 2 AP and are generally the most powerful type of Action to use on a turn, Minor Actions cost 1 AP and are a bit weaker, Free Actions cost no AP but usually aren’t very powerful, Movement Actions let you move around on your turn with increasing AP costs for using them more than once per turn, and lastly one Reaction can be used each round of Combat to respond to your allies’ or enemies’ Actions!
Example Turn: Heatsink uses Heat Transfer, a Minor Action costing 1 AP, to move the Burning Status Effect from the Bolter Thug that he Burned last turn to the Bolter Brute in front of him. Then he uses Fire Beam, a Main Action costing 2 AP, to Attack the Brute and get an automatic Critical Hit IF he lands the hit, because Fire Beam Critically Hits against Targets that have the Burning Status Effect! His teammate Divinus uses his Reaction to use Highlight on the Bolter Brute, which grants Heatsink Dominance on the Attack! With his last Action Point, Heatsink uses a Movement Action, costing 1 AP, to get away from the Bolter Brute.
Power Resources - Drive
Even Superheroes have a limited amount of energy to fight crime. In order to represent that, Indominant uses a resource system for Power usage. This resource is called "Drive" which represents a Super's willpower and determination to continue fighting for the greater good. Using your Powers consumes Drive based on the Tier of the Power, the stronger the Power, the more Drive it costs.
Each Archetype has their own way of recovering or sustaining their Drive through active participationin combat, or their own special mechanics! For example a Bruiser recovers Drive by taking and dishing out hits, while the Guardian recovers Drive by deflecting attacks or empowering their allies!
While most Powers you choose over your Super’s career are preset with their effects, every Super gets their own unique Signature Power that you get to create and customize to meet your needs and playstyle! Signature Powers come with a higher Drive cost and Action Point cost, but makes up for this with very high power and customizability!
This custom Signature Power system has a wide variety of effects and interactions to choose from so that you can create Signature Powers like:
A single target attack with increased critical hit chance to take advantage of multiple Dominance stacks.
A large ground effect that slowly withers away enemies while it heals the wounds of allies.
A force multiplier buff that greatly empowers one of your allies to take down a tough Threat.
To create an environment where players feel like a classic Superhero by risking everything to save the day, we have the Momentous Action System. This system allows you to push past your normal limits to achieve feats of amazing greatness, but at a cost! Supers can and should use their Momentous Actions when it is absolutely necessary, as the benefits are sudden and awe inspiring, but the consequences are long lasting.
Use your Momentous Action to:
Stop a runaway car from crashing into an innocent civilian, with your bare hands or your superpowers!
Intercept a gunshot from killing a political figurehead during an assignation attempt.
Focus all of your power into one final blow against a giant monster destroying the city.
With our unique character building system you can create any character you can imagine!
Instead of picking a “Class” that determines what your character is good at and what they can do, choose 1 of 5 Archetypes to determine your play style and role on your team, and 1 of 10 Powersets which determine your specific combat abilities. The pairing of Powerset and Archetype also gives you access to a unique set of Talents. This combination also gives you a unique way of exploring the universe and solving problems.
Supplement this with your Species Type to understand your physiology, your Origin to determine how you got your powers, and how they work, and your Calling to describe your Super’s past and their place in the world.
The first, and most impactful choice to make during character creation is selecting an Archetype. This is the aspect of a Super that determines their main role on a team, play style, strengths, and weaknesses. Each Archetype modifies the selected Powerset to suit a specific play style through determining Combat Stats, and the unique set of Talents that are available based on the combination of the chosen Powerset with each Archetype.
All Sample pages layout and content are not final
An Archetype can completely restructure the feel and use of a Powerset. One Super might be an Arbiter with Fire Manipulation Powers that uses their flames to heal and protect allies, while a Bruiser with Fire Manipulation Powers uses flames to get into close combat to cause devastation to swaths of enemies around themselves.
All Sample pages layout and content are not final
Supers in Indominant choose a Powerset, which determines exactly what they can do with their powers. Each Powerset has its own unique Inherent Effect, which is an ever-present part of combat, and drives the unique identity of each one. Each Powerset has 10 Tiers of Powers, plus their unique SignaturePower. Every Powerset has 48 Powers to choose from, spread across these Tiers. So there are 480 total Powers available. The 10 Powersets in the Super’s Information Codex are:
Indominant uses Talents as a system for passive improvements to a Super, as well as some special activatable effects. Your set of Talents, or Talent Set, is determined by the combination of your Archetype and Powerset. Each Talent Set has 10 Tiers of Talents, each with 3 Talents to choose from. If you do the math, that is 50 Talent Sets, each with 30 Talents, for a total of 1,500 Talents!
Talents can range from enhancing your Archetype Abilities to completely modifying your Powerset’s Inherent Effect to suit a different playstyle! These Talents give you multiple ways to hone your Super’s abilities to suit the playstyle and themes you desire!
A Psionics Arbiter can change all of their Powers into illusory mind tricks, including ones that use telekinesis and psionic energy projection.
A Fire Manipulation Bruiser can convert their Burning Flames into a draining heat absorption to heal themselves, reducing the amount of damage it deals to enemies.
An Ice Guardian can add icy breath to their Taunt Archetype Ability, causing it to apply a Stack of Chill to affected Targets.

For Retailers
Contact us at [email protected] to discuss retailer orders. You must verify that you own a brick and mortar retail store, once confirmed you can order larger quantities of Indominant Hardcover books.
The GLU is a private organization that was created in tandem with the IDC in order to protect the planets, civilizations, and solar systems that retain membership with the IDC. This protection can take many forms and the GLU may not always be viewed as a benevolent organization, though they do work towards the betterment of the Universe as a whole.
The GLU is the only organization that is officially obligated by the IDC to register Supers in order to track their actions, powers, and whereabouts. In order to properly do so the GLU has implemented a specific set of testing requirements that must be met for Supers to become officially registered by the GLU. In return for becoming registered Supers can make use of several benefits such as: a steady income, official proof of their status and power, access to useful resources, and more.
Supers can register under the Hero, Contractor, Researcher, or Suit titles. These titles determine the Supers’ specific roles within the GLU and the tasks that they can be required to take part in, but they do not preclude them from willingly taking part in any task.
The IDC is the governing organization of the societies that are members within the IDC. The IDC requires that each member planet, society, and solar system provide a council member to weigh in on decisions and represent their people. The method in which the council member is chosen is up to the member providing them. The Council creates intergalactic law, votes on amendments, and decides whether or not a new member is inducted into the IDC. The IDC does have some power to call upon the GLU in certain emergencies or occurrences that transcend planetary levels.
Overall the IDC is viewed as a benevolent organization that has not caused issues and made life better and safer within its jurisdiction. The IDC itself does also hire Supers for its own purposes, be it guarding the council members, the council chamber, or visiting new potential member locations.
Using the GLU and IDC as Story Hooks
The GLU and IDC can be great tools to provide immediate heroic missions for any group of supers, whether veteran, or brand new. They will work to support any registered Super with transport and Costume Upgrades. Those that want to call themselves a "Villain" could have a story hook to join the GLU or IDC with the goal of dismantling them. As a Super, the universe is yours to explore and mold into the compelling story you want with the partnership of your Comic Editor.
The Creator of Odin’s Key Gaming Ltd. and the Indominant IP. Zarek has been an avid gamer since before he can remember and was so into gaming at such a young age that there is video footage of him crawling on top of his brother’s SNES. In all seriousness he has been in love with gaming, both tabletop and video games, from a very young age. He was playing D&D with his brother and friends when he was just twelve, playing video games as early as he could button mash, and reading comics as soon as he could read. Funnily enough after ranting to his father about many of his game ideas his father is the one who gave him the push to actually create one. Thus, Indominant was born. The IP that has been created is designed to fulfill every game idea and dream that Zarek has, and he is willing to do anything to make those dreams a reality for all to enjoy, and not just for him to wistfully daydream about!
Ricardo (Ricky) Rivera - Chief Product Officer & Game Designer
Raised in Las Vegas Nevada, Ricky grew up playing every Xbox and PlayStation game he could convince his parents to buy for him. He went to University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) and graduated with a bachelors degree in Interpersonal Communications. In those years of schooling he was introduced to the world of Tabletop RPGS like Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder. But it wasn’t until after marriage and having his first child that he really began to explore the hobby. Making resin dice, 3d printing, and painting miniatures became a passion. By chance his wife introduced him to Zarek Odynski when she saw a post about playtesting early versions of Indominant. He not only jumped in but worked to become a creative designer and co-owner at Odin’s Key Gaming. He’s excited for the future the game holds in the industry and cannot wait to hear about all the Super Undertakings people take on!
Insight Check and DnD Unoptimized created a collaborative new YouTube channel, Tabletop Trends, focused on deeply reviewing indie TTRPGs AND includes the designers in the process with an interview and a few quick gameplay sessions! They were kind enough to do a full, honest review of Indominant, check it out here!
Testimonials
“Indominant brings the CRUNCH to its mechanics in a way that is missing from many other modern TTRPGs. Skill experience, action points, and setting people on fire - it's an ode to the pulp comics and crunchy RPGs of days gone by, with all the perks of modern quality of life game design. If you're looking for a system that's so deep enough to drown Galactus, this is the one for you.”
- D&D Shorts, Content Creator
“2025 Tabletop game of the year.”
- Pack Tactics, Content Creator
“If you’re a fan of superheroes and TTRPGs then Indominant is exactly the game that you want. It’s the perfect blend of the power fantasy with traditional tabletop elements that heavily focus on teamwork and making players feel unique and capable. With character building that is deep but not complicated and combat that flows seamlessly with the rest of the game, Indominant captures all of the best elements of modern TTRPGs and puts it on display through its creative and well structured rules. This is one not to miss out on.”
- Insight Check, Content Creator
“Indominant mixed D20 with the superhero genre to create a tactical game that rewarded resource management and emphasized a group dynamic. The action economy interacted with the drive mechanic to keep me on my toes and make each round different from the last. All in all I had a great time and would recommend it to anyone interested in superheroes and wants a tactical experience where fights feel intense, scary, and fulfilling.”
- DnD Unoptimized, Content Creator
“Indominant is a return to form for super hero TTRPGs, that harkens back to the crunchy, tactical glory of Mutants & Masterminds, but with a modern design approach. Fans of Pathfinder, Mutants & Masterminds, and Lancer, with its emphasis on detailed, crunchy character builds and tactical super hero combat. My mind immediately started churning with myriad character builds as I read the Primer!”
- Peter Lange, Lead Designer of Tales From Elsewhere
“Indominant is the greatest TTRPG I've ever played. No other game has so thoroughly rewarded my creativity, or offered so much character choice. When you sit down for your first game, you don't just feel like you're playing a character, you feel like you're truly stepping into the costume of a hero.”
- Donnelly Homily, Playtester
“I love the use of the XP for skills. It makes every interaction a path to improve your character. I don't know any other system that does this as simply as Indominant."
- Mike Hough, Playtester
"The Indominant primer has been a really fun TTRPG to play. It is easy to pick up and start playing, has enough features to keep it interesting, and allows for some crazy stuff to happen all at once. The action point system in Indominant keeps things moving along in combat, all without getting held up with unnecessarily complicated modifiers to track every time. The best feature in Indominant is the freedom to make your superhero exactly as you want to. Powers, talents, traits, features, and effects all have a well defined result, but you can flavor that however you want to suit your superhero.”
We are planning to have the final PDF completed by June of 2026, but this doesn’t mean that you won’t be playing the game long before that! We already have the Core Rules andfirst 5 Levels of content complete and ready to play using our Game System Primer, which all Backers, Newsletter subscribers, and Discord members get FREE access to! In addition to that, all of the content up to Level 20 has been written, but it needs a lot of testing and refinement.
We plan to have the first “playtest packet” sent out to everyone who has access (all Backers get access to all playtest packets!) in the first 1-2 months after this campaign closes.
For our playtesting we are going to do 3 waves of content releases:
Playtest Packet #1 will include Levels 6 to 10. ETA May to June 2025.
Playtest Packet #2 will include Levels 11 to 15.
Playtest Packet #3 will include Levels 16 to 20.
We aren’t going to rush the playtesting and want to give ourselves plenty of time to get feedback, and refine the game and balance as we need. But the better this campaign does, the more playtesters we will have, and the faster these phases of development will be!
What’s Next?
Our plan for the future after the Super’s Information Codex is complete and fulfilled is to run another Backerkit campaign for the Comic Editor’s Compendium, our game master’s guide, and if things go well we’d like that campaign to also include the Threat Index, our book of enemies.
3rd Party Licensing
We will publish Indominant under an open license. We plan to create and maintain our own open license. We want to support the Indominant community and its content creators to allow them to make and publish their own Indominant content!
Our only risk involved with this project is not reaching our funding goal. And even if we don’t reach our funding goal on this campaign, we will complete the Super’ Information Codex, the timeline would just be extended and there would be less art in the book.
We have already designed the Core Rules and went through both an offset printing run of the Game System Primer, and getting the updated version of it set up on Drive Thru RPG for sale. This is why we are confident that we can deliver the Super’s Information Codex within the timeline mentioned above in our Schedule & Plan.
Terms and Conditions, and Other Things to Know
We like to be transparent and upfront about what to expect and what our policies are for various miscellaneous questions or issues that might come up. You'll find details about refunds and fulfillment below.
Communication We will send out regular updates on the project page throughout production and fulfillment, at least once a month (sometimes more frequently, as needed). We will respond quickly, and you can always email us at [email protected] if you need help with your pledge.
Refunds We will grant refunds for pledges within 30 days of the campaign's end date, no questions asked. After that, we cannot grant refunds and if you choose not to fill out your survey or pay shipping and tax on time, your pledged amount will be considered a donation toward the project.
Fulfillment
We are targeting June 2026 for the fulfillment of the Digital Book Rewards, and we are targeting September 2026 for the fulfillment of the Physical Book Rewards.
Once physical fulfillment has begun (once physical items start shipping out to backers), all remaining backers who have not yet filled out their surveys will have 30 days to complete and submit their surveys to receive their rewards. After that, any backers who have still not filled out their surveys and paid their shipping and taxes will have their pledges for physical items considered a donation toward the project.
Dates and deadlines will be made clear through campaign updates, and reminders will be sent on a regular basis throughout the post-campaign timeline to remind backers who haven't yet completed their surveys.
Damaged or Missing Items, and Lost or Misdelivered Packages You have 30 days after your package arrives to report to [email protected] any needed replacement items for damaged or missing items in your order. If your order was damaged, be sure to include pictures of the packaging as well. For packages that go missing, you have 45 days to report it after the item is sent (or 60 days for international packages) to have me resend or follow up on the items. Packages that are sent to an incorrect address as a result of an error in your entry will require you to pay for shipping the new package. You will be notified before addresses are locked, and will have a chance to update your address until just before fulfillment begins. If you move or your address otherwise changes, be sure to update your address in your survey.
Backers are responsible for providing correct and up to date email addresses on BackerKit, and for reading updates as they are made to keep informed about this information and the deadline dates. Tracking information for packages will be sent to the provided email addresses, so it is the backer's responsibility to follow up on their packages should problems arise.
Crowdfunding is not the same as Pre-Order Backing the project means pledging your support for the project itself, and is not strictly the purchasing of items. While we will do everything we can to deliver all promised items as part of fulfilling this project with your help, and have a track record of having fulfilled multiple projects of similar scale already, there is never a 100% guarantee that backers will receive their items with crowdfunding. By pledging, you recognize this and agree to it.
