Hey folks, Laurie here! We are now half way through the campaign, and hasn't it just flown by?!
Since our last update, not one, but TWO of our guest writers have been unlocked! We were partway through writing this update when a good pal of ours dropped the above gif in the discord and honestly... We couldn't not use it here. Between working on the game, running demos at conventions and moving house, I haven't had much of a chance to write updates yet, but I'm here now!
Lets get straight to it and tell you a little about what the wonderful Muse en Lystrala has in store for you...
Foraging For Freedom
"Your community has a food crisis on its hands. With your numbers increasing day by day, keeping track of food resources has fallen by the wayside in the flurry of getting newcomers settled, warm, and fed - and now you're running out. In this scenario, you and your crew are tasked with a critical operation: forage, dig, and fish for what food you can to bring home to the community, and gather seeds and other resources for expanding the community garden to keep everyone fed, all while avoiding the seeing eyes of the White Fist!"
When Muse sent her teaser across I was thrilled to see it cover such a pertinent topic. Scenarios like these are so important to solarpunk worlds - it's not just about punching nazis back into history, we need to make sure nobody goes without, and a better world is built by the people we save!
As I mentioned earlier, it's not just Muse's Adventure you've helped us unlock...
The talented Hamnah Shahid has also reached their goal!
However, I cannot yet reveal their teaser. We contacted Hamnah with the proposal of joining our Crew as a guest writer very close to the project launch, and we'd like to give them more time to work on the teaser. Think of this as a drum roll... 🥁
Social Goals
As it is the halfway point, I thought I'd take a second to highlight our social goals! On the campaign there are links to Bluesky, Instagram and our discord server. We are adding to a donation pot for every interaction we get on those to a wonderful charity called Tree Sisters, so if you've got a spare minute go and drop some likes, comments and shares on those, or join the fun in the discord server!
Collaboration Partner
As Assemblage have hit their target, now's the time to drop them a pledge too so you can gain access to a game duet we're creating... Collective Action: Use the Assemblage world-building framework to create a unique ecosystem on an island located in the world of Why We Fight — and use Why We fight’s crew creation framework to create a team of scientists investigating that weird ecology!
A final note from me:
We designed Why We Fight to bring hope and inspiration within a post-capitalist setting. With many people rightfully worried for the future, and the damages caused by our society looming large, I wanted Why We Fight to show how it is our human nature, our emotional connections and drive to create, that will ultimately bring about a new, better beginning.
It was important to me when designing this game that players feel like they have a hand in the world they’re making, and agency over the outcomes of their discoveries. Yet it is human connection, our beliefs and convictions, that ultimately empower us to create the change we want to see within the game, and our world.
I wanted Why We Fight to leave players uplifted and excited to explore again. Every time we see powerful stories unfold, made all the stronger by the collective imagination and actions of the players around the table, I know our game is exactly what I wanted it to be. And I thank each and every one of you for believing in us, in our game, and in that brighter future we can all build together.
All the best, Laurie
Why I Fight: I fight for a world where who we are is worth more than what we own
