Project Update: UNLOCKED: Solo Play Rules! (And some other news recaps!)
Hey all, Iris here. Happy 20 hours of Despair Dilemma crowdfunding! Not even a full 24 hours and we're already past twice our funding goal - color me impressed, ahaha.
Well, you saw it in the title already, so let's get to it:
Well, you saw it in the title already, so let's get to it:
Unlocked: Solo Play Rules!
Nora and I like journal-based/solo TTRPGs a lot - they're fun guiding structures to tell and create stories without the multi-person coordination required of standard TTRPGs. Despair Dilemma's pitch of controlling narrative forces and guiding the fates of various unfortunate characters is a perfect fit for these rules, and we're excited to get back to the testing labs to bring you something you'll enjoy!
Now, for the next stretch goal... erm. Nora's the graphic designer of the team, so she normally makes the art for these, but she's been hard at work managing the campaign and she's currently fast asleep. I shall simply have to do my best myself!! Here goes!!!
Coming Up Next: The Toki Death Game Sheet!
And there we are! ...yeah, okay, it's not quite what it'll look like once it's added to the stretch goal ladder proper. I did my best.
The next goal is a pretty exciting one - at $16,666 funded, we'll be working with tokimekiwaku to bring you another death game sheet to the final book! If you don't know Toki, they're the creator and illustrator of the Liar Liar visual novels, a duology about cute girls doing cute things - like killing their boyfriend for betraying them! Their art and writing are both great, so I can't wait to see what they'll bring to the project.... if we can make it to that next funding goal, that is!
Other Notes: Recent Streams and a Twitch Plays Despair Dilemma Recap!
We're barely approaching the 24 hour mark of the campaign and we've already had a lot of things happen! For those who missed it, Nora and I both starred on Mildra the Monk's channel - it's been a while since we last were interviewed by him for Perfect Draw! and it was just as much of a joy to be back there for a repeat visit! Additionally, we played the first chapter of Despair Dilemma... With Chat and had a great time - expect a VOD to be uploaded for that tomorrow, but for now, might I offer you a recap of events?
- A hotshot movie director, his crew, and a bunch of extras set their eyes on the lower floors of an opulent, abandoned mansion... only to be held hostage in its confines by a mysterious, dark-web streamer.
- The director's daughter Valentina, anxious and impressionable, finds herself attached to the mysterious, silent crow-robot-maid Cr0wD. Together, the two search the mansion for a means of escape.
- Meanwhile, in the mansion's library, four cast members and several extras gather - among them the chuunimaxxing villain star, the miscast protagonist, and a boy who snuck onto the cast list. When a confrontation sets off a narrowly-avoided death trap, it's revealed that one of them must be the Traitor... but who?
- Mike, an overworked cameraworker from the filming crew, steps out to confront Cr0wD - he's convinced it's the instigator of their life-threatening situation! Valentina and Cr0wD flee, but will he still hold a grudge?
- Along the way, they discover a hidden key behind a prop painting of Valentina - but the key's clearly old, and the painting was only there for a day! Who could be responsible?
- The two's celebration of their discovery is short lived - their way back to the filming studio uncovers Valentina's father electrocuted to death - and a secret altar behind the studio covered in mysterious red glyphs. The only intelligible hint within is one word upon the front of a book - Usashi...
Expect the second chapter within a week or so and an announced stream date even sooner - if you want to help shape the course of the story together, we'd love to see you there!
Well, that's all for now. Thank you for reading, and for all your support - we can't wait to see what kind of stories everyone ends up crafting in Despair Dilemma themselves when it launches! For now, ciao!
~Iris
