Project Update: The Old School - adventuring in the Goodman warehouse
Hello Xcrawlers,
I'm coming to you to bring another preview. Inspired by Dungeon Con (and suggested by Jason Mizzell), one of the events in Road Trip takes place in a building based on the map of the Goodman Games warehouse in Ft. Wayne. It's "The Old School". If the team is sufficiently cunning and can sneak past the dragon in this event, they can drive away in their very own Wizard Van!

#13 - Ohio District, Indiana Shire, Ft. Wayne
In the history of the taming of the North American continent, some locations stand out as particularly noteworthy. One such location is the military base built in the northern reaches of Indiana Shire in the Ohio District. This fort, called Ft. Wayne, has been a crucial base of operations against the host of deadly monsters that roam this region.
One of the particular locations that the soldiers of Ft. Wayne must keep an eye on is the den of the dragon Godwer. Over the years, Godwer has amassed a vast hoard composed of thousands of old tomes. These dusty old books contain many dark secrets on all matters arcane. There are many who are tempted by the promise of power that could be gained from the forbidden knowledge in these books, and some of those people are daring enough to try to sneak into Godwer's hoard to get even a peek inside a tome or two. These desperate hunters of arcane knowledge have come to refer to the dragon's hoard as "The Old School".
For the Ft. Wayne event, the Xcrawl team will have to sneak their way into The Old School and gain access to one of these ancient tomes. The specific nature of what they must find will vary by division. Once they locate the appropriate tome, they must then copy the designated portion from it, replace the book where they found it and then sneak back out with their copy. This event may not be retried if failed.
The Task at Hand
The team is tasked with tracking down a specific book in The Old School. Once they do so, they must transcribe a section of it, a task requiring great focus and exacting skill. Any mistakes made in the copy will render the text invalid. Also of concern for the team is that the books in question describe ancient secrets about long-hidden magics. These arcane secrets are caustic to the fragile mortal psyche. The mere process of reading the text in order to copy it forces a Will save on the part of the would-be scribe. If the reader fails this Will save, they incur a mental corruption. (See the Mental Corruptions section towards the end of this book.) To succeed in the copying process, the Xcrawler must make an intelligence skill roll (d20 + level + intelligence modifier) against the listed Copy DC. If the roll fails, the scribe has made an error and must begin again, forcing a new Will save. Note that failing the Will save does not prevent a successful copy.

Let's hope the Xcrawl team is clever enough to come out on top in this event.
Game on,
