Project Update: Which adventure would make the best pinball game?
Hey, you pinball addicts! Got a question for you:
As you know, we’re adapting five legendary pinball games to DCC RPG, bringing the tabletop gaming world and the arcade game worlds together for the first time. In doing so, we started thinking about those connections, but this time from the other direction. Sure, Gorgar, Cosmic Gunfight, et al. will make great RPG adventures, but what RPG adventures would make great pinball games? That’s a headscratcher and we need you to help out!
We came up with four options, but since we know that won’t cover all of them, we’re open to other suggestions. Additionally, while we’ve got some ideas for how to turn an RPG adventure into a pinball game, we want to hear your ideas too! Check out the proposals below and vote on your favorite. If you’ve got another favorite in mind, choose option 5 and leave a comment letting us know why your choice is a better one. Same thing if you’ve got some opinions on how we could make one of the selected four adventures even better!
Which classic RPG adventure would make the best pinball game?
Option #1: B2 The Keep on the Borderlands
Send your ball careening into the Borderlands and into the Caves of Chaos! Careful you don’t lose it in the Mad Hermit’s hut or get it stuck in the Lizardman Swamp! Spell out “CHAOS” by hitting glowing targets when each light up to ward you against evil! Send your ball spiraling through the Minotaur’s Maze to earn bonus points and an extra ball. But beware of the dreaded “BREE-YARK” which will cause you to lose points and your ball!
Option #2: DCC #67 Sailors on the Starless Sea
The countdown to the return of the Chaos Lord begins when you pull the plunger and send your ball into play! Keep resetting the clock by hitting Beastmen and Vine Horror targets! Watch in horror as the slick ice of the Tomb of the Fallen sends your ball in unexpected directions! Beware the clutching tendrils of the leviathan that will drag your ball down into the Starless Sea to be lost forever. If you don’t reset the clock in time, beware as the Ziggurat unleashes a torrent of chaos-infused balls that reduce your score each time one is lost!
Option #3: The Curse of Strahd
The Mists of Ravenloft have claimed you and you must defeat the vampire Strahd to escape! Hit tarokka card targets to create “hands of cards,” each providing power-ups and bonus points! Spell out the words “SWORD” to claim the Sunsword to best battle Strahd! Avoid packs of werewolves who want to devour your ball and prevent you from destroying their vampire master! Keep your ball in play long enough for the sun to rise and finally destroy the Master of Ravenloft!
Option #4: OAR #7 Dark Tower
The forces of Mitra and Set vie for control of the Dark Tower and you must aid one against the other. Choose to serve Set or Mitra, then earn bonus points by striking targets aligned to your foes. Send your ball spiraling up or down ramps to advance to a higher or lower level of the tower, lighting up new challenges and opportunities for high score! Collect or destroy all the Relics of Mitra to defeat the enemy and earn extra plays! But watch out for the dragon, Argun, who will incinerate your regardless of who you choose to serve!
Option #5: Your Choice
Let us know what adventure you’d like to see as a pinball game and how it would play in the comments!
