Project Update: What to Do When Your Package Ships + How to File a Lost/Damaged Claim

Congratulations!

Your package has either shipped or is in the queue for fulfillment. You're eagerly awaiting its day of arrival. If you haven't received an email notice, don't panic, everything is processing. We're working through shipping in groups of 500-1000 outbound packages at a time. It will take 4-8 business days to get almost 4000 packages out the door.

But you want... no, you NEED more information. This update is for you.

First, based on reports from our test shipments, your shipping notification email sounds like it's coming directly from EasyShip. Yes, if you see EasyShip.com in your inbox, that almost certainly is your Grandmaster order. It will include tracking information.

Because most domestic packages are Media Mail (how most books in the States are shipped), it might not show you every step of the way, but it will show overall progress. Media Mail can appear "stalled" due to lack to intermediate updates, so don't worry unless at least twenty days have passed since the day of shipment. (Note: we have now closed the Ground Advantage upgrade form.)

International packages will be in our third wave, which lets us make sure everything is working properly for the easier domestic shipments, troubleshoot any issues, and focus our attention on each of your orders, which have more unique needs. Tracking will vary by country and by carrier, but like domestic backers, you will receive tracking emails from EasyShip when your shipping label is created. The customs form will list the values of your rewards based on our pledge level pricing. Remember that duties, brokerage fees, and national import policies are outside of our control and are not charged by us -- if you absolutely cannot afford whatever duties your government charges please email [email protected] as soon as possible. We'll work with you to come up with a solution on a case-by-case basis.

Sometimes (typically fewer than 3% of packages), something goes wrong and a backer's package is either lost or arrives damaged.

Here's the process for fixing problems with packages, directly from our insurer.


CLAIMS REQUIREMENTS AND TIMELINES


Claims must be filed within 90 calendar days from the date of shipment. Below are the conditions under which claims can be submitted.

Lost Shipments:
  • Domestic Shipments: File after 20 calendar days from the last tracking update.
  • International Shipments: File after 30 calendar days from the last tracking update.

Damaged Shipments
  • Claims for damaged items can be filed immediately upon discovery. In cases where the shipment is still stuck in transit and you are notified of the damage by the courier, reach out to [email protected].


WHAT TO DO FOR LOST SHIPMENTS


If the shipment is not yet within the eligible claim window, you will not be able to file a claim until you are eligible.

If you're within the claim window, you’ll be asked to provide a detailed description of why you believe the shipment is lost. This information helps Insureship evaluate your claim.

We will also need the following documentation from you before submitting your claim:

  • Communication from the buyer confirming non-receipt (that's you!)

WHAT TO DO FOR DAMAGED OR MISSING ITEMS


For damaged or missing items, note the specific items, describe the issue, and email us any supporting photos or documentation. Clear, detailed evidence is crucial for a successful claim. 

We'll ask you to upload one or more of the following documents, based on whatever proof the insurance company requests when we begin the claim process:

  • Communication from the buyer (that's you!)
  • A video showing the damage (and/or)
  • Photographs of the damaged item(s)


WHAT TO DO IF YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR DIGITAL REWARDS


Email [email protected]. We'll access your BackerKit account and send you a link to your downloads. You may download your digital rewards as many times as you wish.


WHAT TO DO IF YOUR PACKAGE HASN'T SHIPPED BY DECEMBER 1ST


We're still receiving support emails from backers who haven't completed their surveys yet. We cannot ship if your survey is incomplete, because we don't have your shipping address! Likewise, we can't ship if shipping isn't paid. (Yes, you can still request a shipping scholarship.) 208 backers have not completed their surveys and 52 more backers haven't paid for shipping.

If this is you, please reach out to [email protected] so we can assist you with getting your rewards. As a reminder, we keep late fulfillment open for a full year from the date that shipping begins, so everyone has until November 10 of 2026 to complete surveys, cover shipping, and get your rewards shipped. After that we close the campaign for good.


WHAT TO DO IF YOU RECEIVE MORE BOOKS THAN YOU THINK YOU ORDERED


Keep them or gift them. Make a new fan happy. They're yours now.
