The Oda reached their peak during the meteoric career of their last great leader, Oda Nobunaga. His spectacular victory over the Imagawa at the Battle of Okehazama in 1561 established the Oda as a force with whom all other warlords had to reckon. When Nobunaga was assassinated in 1582, he lorded over half of Japan; this after inheriting a small domain around Nagoya from his father. He is one of the dominant figures of that era, and if you’ve seen Kurosawa’s classic film Kagemusha, we’ll bet that you remember him as the eccentric warlord who sucked up to European missionaries to get the firearms that sealed the Takeda Clan’s fate. Now you can wear the sashimono that Oda Nobunaga’s soldiers wore into battle and carry their glory into the present day!
