Project Update: Shipping nearly complete & Aluminum Body upgrade opportunity

It's been a long journey, and we appreciate your patience along the way. What began in December is now nearly complete, thanks to your support. Our original goal was to deliver all SpectraTone Red mouthpieces by the first week in April. We've now delivered 96% of all orders from backers who completed their surveys. Eight people have not returned a survey, which means we will choose your body variation and set it aside for you, but we cannot ship without your address and rim selection.

That leaves another few backers waiting on rim sizes that are currently at plating. To our surprise, we had an unusually high number of orders for 660 and 614 diameter rims, which had been made in December, but not all were plated. Those should be back in our shop in approximately 10 days or less. If you are waiting on an order for a 614H rim and would like to switch to a different 614 variation to get quicker shipping, please contact us at 303.657.2747.

Save $250 on Titanium and $175 on Stainless Steel SpectraTone Red, Yellow, or Blue mouthpieces

I have two Titanium mouthpiece bodies remaining, which I will offer to our backers in the form of a complete SpectraTone Red, Yellow, or Blue mouthpiece for $350. If you want one in Stainless Steel, the price is $325. Email me by Wednesday (or order with link below) before they are gone forever. Oh yeah, did I mention all SS and Ti body styles will be retired once inventory is sold out. This is due to the complex production process that is too costly in smaller batches. I made approximately 15% more bodies in SS and Ti than were originally ordered through Backerkit. You can see remaining inventory here.

Laser Sintered ALUMINUM Body

And finally, I want to announce the debut of standalone LSLT (Laser Sintered Lattice Topology) Mouthpiece Bodies in ALUMINUM. I will be offering these to all SpectraTone/5MM mouthpiece owners for HALF PRICE next week. Again, once these are sold out, they will not be offered again. Your next opportunity for a LSLT solution will come with SpectraTone Green in Autumn.

Thanks again for your amazing support, feedback, and musicianship!

Project Update: Timeline on remaining SpectraTone Red shipments

Jen has been working hard to enter every single order into our system for the past two weeks.
The process has been slower than expected as approximately 35% of our backers have requested some kind of change to their order after we closed the surveys, which has delayed all shipments. For this reason, we will no longer consider any future requests for order changes or additions. We really want to ship your mouthpieces!

Here's what you can expect for the remaining SpectraTone Red shipping schedule.

March 12th - remaining Brass variations with no upgrades
March 26th - all SS variations with no upgrades
April 2nd - all Ti variations with no upgrades
April 9th - all orders with upgrades

We will be offering one final option to purchase a new SpectraTone Red and related accessories at a very nice discount. We're doing this to give your friends, colleagues, and students a chance to get in on the fun.

Be sure to get on our mailing list at Harrelson for the one-day public release on April 1st!

Project Update: Breadberry Starter Shipping, Your Feedback, and More!

Hello, our Dough-tastic Data Devotees!

First, the shipping news...

Breadberry Starter Shipping

I've just returned from a quick jaunt to my local post office, dropping off dozens of Breadberry starters. For those of you who added the Breadberry add-on, your dehydrated starter is now en-route, secured in the hands of USPS.

For our international backers, we're now in "send and pray" mode for your Breadberry shipments. I've attached international stamps to your regular envelopes, hoping they make it through the labyrinth of global mail systems. Unfortunately it's all a bit of a dice roll, as customs rules differ from country to country. Who knew, for instance, that Spain has a no-go policy on playing cards? And shipping pulverized coca beans to Germany? Nein, danke! You can find more of these peculiar restrictions here: https://pe.usps.com/text/Imm/immctry.htm. Let me know if you find anything about dehydrated sourdough starters in there (e.g., I would argue it is definitely not a live animal).

Special thanks go to Noah, my trusty Breadwinner sidekick as he stuffed many of the envelopes you'll be receiving and has been a huge support during our journey.

If you're a non-US backer waiting for your actual Breadwinner, don't fret - it looks as if the majority of them have made it out of the country and many of them have already cleared customs in their destination country.

How’s it going?

So, for those who have successfully sprung their units from their boxes and are feeding the data beast, how are things kneading out? Some of you have already recorded a dozen feedings, which is fantastic! We're seeing new devices rise online daily, but do feel free to drop me a line if you encounter any glitches or need assistance with your setup – [email protected].

Suggest Features?

To help me better organize and prioritize future development on Breadwinner, I’ve baked up a new feedback system over here:
Stumbled upon a bug? Post it here:

This is my first time using Canny, but I'm hopeful it will aid in keeping things well-organized and allow you to stay updated when fresh features are baked and ready.

Until next time, keep those ovens warm and the feedback coming!

Best,

Fred

My starter, Breadberry, is a rye guy.

Once I discovered how it much Breadberry grew when being fed rye, I knew I couldn't go back. That said, I've tried mixing in spelt, regular whole wheat, and baker's flour. But I've always come back to rye. I'm also about 1:1 (i.e., 100% hydration) of flour to water, but have definitely varied that a lot. I notice that the stiffer my starter is, the more jagged it's graph is on my Breadwinner dashboard.

But that's just me, and everyone's starter is different. So what do you feed yours and why?

Project Update: Geese, Guests (...writers), and Good Luck Cookies 🪿📔🥠

Fujoshi, fudanshi, fujin, and friends,

Geese (and fujin) invaded the first ATproto conference, with us leading the charge: through the power of community (and in less than 5 hours) we got work-safe geese yaoi on the screen. Now that is what we call impact!

YouTube Screenshot of the ATmosphere Conference 2025 closing remarks. The speaker and conference organizer, Boris Mann, gestures towards the slide of magnificent goose fanart up on the screen, which has Ms Boba's avatar portrait, Love Wins #Goosetopher, and fanworks from our friends who joined us today. The title is Goosetopher Gustopher: Ms Boba (crossed out) Community Wins Again.

FujoCoded General Company News

  • Setting Some ATmosphere: March 22-23 saw us join the ATmosphere conference, the first conference dedicated to the ATproto ecosystem—that is, the decentralized protocol behind apps like BlueSky. It was an incredible gathering of people who really, really care about a freer and more independent web, including many ActivityPub/Mastodon friends, and fujin-friendly, to say the least… (Check out all talks here!)

  • Friendly Geese: Not only the ATmosphere Conf organizers invited Ms Boba after hearing about her ATproto experiments for fujin, but much affectionate talk was made about everyone’s new OTP: conference mascot Gustopher and The Untitled Goose Game goose. So, in a span of just 5 hours from putting out our call to hearing back joyous honks of love, we got not just one or two, but many submissions of tasteful #goosetopher fanart—we even got them on the closing slides of the conference! Let’s hope Gustopher’s a good influence on his new paramour.

  • Miss Speaking: Ms Boba gave a fantastic talk at the conference to a great response from attendees and remote watchers! Throughout the conference, there was a lot of audience interest in how we can get more communities involved in the future of the (social) web, which fits perfectly with all we're doing. Check out the full details in the BobaBoard retrospective, or go straight to her talk: “Yearning for the Open Protocols”.
    • Just remember: there’s a fine line to walk between building up your professional profile, and maintaining sensible internet anonymity, which is why Ms Boba attended in disguise—if you think you now know what she looks like, no you don't!

  • Bake Sale: In other news, we had a delicious return to April 1st tradition with a treat rather than a tr...large-scale fundraiser—Yaoi fortune cookies! On sale were “Chocolate Doves”, “Kinda Vanilla”, and “Lemony Prompts”, each with its own set of specifically-crafted fortunes...we even got some lovely fanart! Chocolate Doves flew over the competition to win our cookie run, but really, aren’t we all winners? Check out our contributors spotlight on Bluesky, Mastodon, Tumblr, or Twitter!

  • Hiring Fun(ds): And of course, selling cookies is not just delicious fun, it gives us enough money for our next goal: hiring a sysadmin to help us better setup our servers so they can be reliable, and will promptly alert us if anything happens! Who knows, this might finally make us confident enough to host stuff for you in the future...

Recent Progress on Our Backerkit Campaign

  • Writing Frenzy: It’s not all geese and gobbling, we also wrote (and then rewrote ad infinitum) the outline for our soon-to-be-famous NPM article! We might have had it (mostly) ready for the last newsletter, but Ms Boba spent some time rearranging it after a break…and it’s now four whole articles! That might stretch the budget a bit, but it’s also going to cover most of what we’ve learned the community is struggling with...just like our already-available Terminal content!

  • Village People: Still, it takes a village to code (and learn to code) a website so we gathered a bunch of enthusiastic feedback from the Fandom Coders community. We even had it reviewed by one of BobaBoard’s professional volunteer tech writers to ensure our outline sets our future hire (see below) up for success!

What’s Next for the FujoCoded BackerKit

  • Extended Contracts: Our contracts are, to quote sociocracy, “good enough for now, safe enough to try”—but they’ll need a bit of extending to cover tech writers, too! And we’ll need this ASAP because…

  • Needed Prose Masters: …we’re looking to hire a tech writer for the NPM articles with the funds raised through the corresponding stretch goal in our BackerKit campaign! If you’d like this to beyou (or someone you know), check out our call for hire below!

Stretch Goal #2 It’s time! With our first sticker unlocked, we move to a new category of rewards: beginner-friendly articles to publish on our teaching hub, fujoweb.dev. Once we reach this goal, we’ll contract with a tech writer from our network to fix a major roadblock for new web developers: understanding the Node Package Manager (NPM), and using it to create, use, or collaborate on modern JavaScript applications. The image has celebratory confetti and a big "unlocked" stamp.

Around the FujoVerse

In the press

Daniel Craig on SNL, originally introducing The Weeknd. He now gestures his arms wide and says ladies and gentlemen & everybody... the BobaBoard 2024 Retrospective.

  • Back to the Bubbles: We’ve published the Bobaboard retrospective! This is a once-a-year look back at everything our Bubbly Bubbles of BobaBoard volunteers (some of us included) have been up to. Whilst BobaBoard became our first graduated project last year (and thus moved out of the FujoCoded nest, it’s still deeply tied to us, and we’re helping each other as need be—especially when it comes to effort that benefits both of us (contracts! Documentation!)

  • Bubbling to the Future: …and just so you know, the retrospective also includes a section on BobaBoard’s plans for 2025! If you’re curious what we’ll be (also) up to, go check that out!

Ms Boba Streaming Schedule

  • Current schedule: With a whole lot happening all around, Ms Boba’s streams are (once again) on a best-effort basis! While she’ll try to go live on Twitch every Thursday at 3PM Pacific, the corresponding 3PM Monday slot comes and goes. To get notified when she streams, you can subscribe to her on Twitch, follow her on socials (mastodon, bluesky, twitter, tumblr), or keep up with our programming branch, FujoWebDev (mastodon, bluesky, twitter, tumblr)!

  • What are we streaming about? We’re currently deep into more ATproto (and lexicons) experimentation with a series of streams dedicated to “building a GuestBook lexicon”! You can catch a recording here:

    • Part 1: Building the Lexicon: where we define what the data underlying our Guestbook looks like
    • Part 2: Reacting to Events: where we listen to the global stream of events to react to new Guestbooks and entries being created

We’ll continue this series until we have a fully-working guestbook set up!

FujoStore Highlights: Restocks, Sales, and Limited-Time Offers

Item description for Fandom Cookies - Digital Item Pack. Free upon collecting the cookies across the site. Prophet Boba-tan, in homage to Cookie Run's Prophet Cookie. Wise Boba-tan, garbed in her white and red wizardy cloak, peers over her luxurious fortune cookie beard to deeply ponder the future as seen within her tapioca boba ball. She speaks of words of wisdom, of HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. Behind her are a mock-up of a paper fortune teller template, and a circuit board pattern adorning the image. What's this? A special, exclusive surprise for the brave cookie collector?! This pack contains (at least) 3 digital items: cootie (crossed out) cookie catcher, fortune generator JavaScript learn-along, and assorted cookies wallpapers.

  • Cookie Up a Challenge: We have something in store (literally) for the brave explorers who can find the cookies hidden all over our online parlor: a FREE prize that includes (among other things) a HTML, CSS and JS learn-along—or will, when it ships late May. Technically this is part of our now concluded April 1st event, and we were just too busy to remove it. But who’s complaining? Offer valid until the end of the month…at least!

You can help!

Last but not least, our usual call for hired help and/or willing volunteers! This month we’re once again happy to share a paid position: come forth technical writers (and aspiring such), and let us bring you on a Now Paying Money adventure!

  • Smithing Words📝…for Money (đź’°): After much time, feedback, and outlining, the “Introduction to JavaScript with NPM” articles financed through our founding campaign are ready to be written! Now we’re finally looking for technical writers (fannish background appreciated) to help us inspire new, confident explorers of everything the NPM ecosystem has to offer—and yes, we (also) mean Astro.

Check out some of the articles in our learning website for an example of what the final artifacts should look like, and get in touch if you’re up for the (paid) task! We require both basic computer knowledge and the willingness to run simple command line programs, but we don't require previous experience with professional technical writing NOR pre-existing knowledge of NPM/JavaScript. Just send us some tutorials or other explainers you've written!

  • Smithing Videos📹…for Glory: Are you willing to wrangle video wranglers? BobaBoard’s documentation bubble is looking for a wondrous lead volunteer to coordinate our wonderful video volunteers as they turn our many, many hours of recorded web development and BobaBoard documentation into something the whole FujoVerse™ and beyond can put to good use. If you have previous experience with managing work on video, or have been part of similar work and want to build some managing experience of your own, reach out!

If any of these calls for aid sound up your alley, or if you’d like to get involved in other ways, please reach out at [email protected]!

That’s all, folks!

And with this, our update for April concludes. See you next month (and on Twitch) for more adventures together!

Love,
The FujoCoded Team (A Gandering Gathering of Geese)

Project Update: Three Hundred Backers Milestone 🎉

Woot! We're over the 300 Backers mark, and still a ways to go on the countdown. We probably could have made it a shorter campaign, but there is still time for the less connected to discover the offer and get in on the deal!

For those few of you who need two upgrade kits, please send a message using the contact form at conductivelabs.com. Be sure to include the email address that was used on Backerkit. We'll keep a list and manage the 2nd kit with the post campaign survey.

Speaking of connected, if you aren't signed up for our not so frequent Conductive Labs Newsletter, you can do that here: Opt-In We won't spam you with weekly reminders to buy more stuff. We use it for announcing things we believe will be meaningful, like new products, features and firmware updates. In addition to those topics, we usually offer a coupon code too.

We've been following the US tariff situation, and so far we're not panicking. We anticipated some extra costs, but not 147% extra! There are some exemptions, so we are in a wait and see mode. In the meantime, our manufacturing rep is looking at options for getting the kits made outside of our usual suppliers, just in case. And possibly fulfilling some orders from Asia. We'll adapt as needed.

We'll shoot for having a video demonstrating the board swap for the next update.
